The mechanical seal is a combination of a series of simple design elements, the sealing effect by two flat with the main seal ring to complete, to prevent leakage. One of the sealing rings is rotated together with the shaft, and the other seal ring is fixed to the housing. In order to seal the centrifugal pump shaft, the static seal ring is mounted on the sealing chamber gland. The contact surfaces of the two sealing contacts are similar to bearings and are subject to wear. Any form of system leak must pass through this sealed contact surface. The force acting in the axial direction keeps the seal ring from frictional contact, and its source can be mechanical or hydraulic. In many designs, take the sum of the two. This stable contact prevents leakage from the friction surface or minimizes leakage.

 Mechanical seal structure

Commonly used mechanical seal structure as shown above. (Static ring) 1, a rotating ring (movable ring) 2, an elastic element 3, a spring seat 4, a set screw 5, a rotary ring auxiliary sealing ring 6 and a stationary ring auxiliary sealing ring 8, 7 is fixed to the gland 9 to prevent the stationary ring from rotating. The rotating rings and the stationary rings are also often referred to as compensating rings or non-compensated, depending on whether they have axial compensation capability. Mechanical seal in the fluid may leak the way as shown above, A, B, C, D four channels.

C, D leakage channels are static ring and gland, gland and shell seal between the two are static seal. B channel is the seal between the rotating ring and the shaft, when the end of the friction and wear, it can only follow the compensation ring along the axial micro-movement, in fact, is still a relatively static seal. Therefore, these leakage channels are relatively easy to block. Static seal components are the most commonly used rubber O-ring or polytetrafluoroethylene V-ring, and as a compensation ring ring or static ring auxiliary seal, sometimes with elastic components of the function of rubber, PTFE or metal bellows Structure.
